I drove up to the Florence Coffee hut in Corvallis, Montana, and was greeted by the barista with a smile.
“Order anything you like” she said, “the person ahead of you already paid for your coffee.”
You can spread happiness with random acts of kindness.
Kindness has a ripple effect. Feeling happy that I was gifted a coffee, I was inspired to do the same. I gave the barista money for the next person in line behind me to have a free coffee, and a tip for her.
When we act kindly towards someone, it often inspires them to be kind to others as well.
It sets off a chain reaction of goodwill and can make a significant difference in someone’s day or even their life. Small acts of kindness can have a huge impact. The ripple effect of kindness flows through to other people in the future, so that they in turn will be more likely to help others.
Decades of research shows that when we are kind to others, we are healthier and happier.
By taking time to be kind to others, we also experience benefits with better wellbeing. It really does make a difference, and a smile is free! It’s truly the little things that add up to be the big things. Holding a door open, sharing a smile, and even “paying it forward” or “paying it backward” without expectation can make a positive impact in someone’s day.
Benefits of sharing kindness include:
- Feeling healthier and happier from the inside out.
- Improve wellbeing and reduce stress.
- A more positive community and connection with others.
With everything that’s going on in the world, now is the time to spread kindness.
Just as a pebble creates waves when it is dropped in a pond, acts of kindness gently ripples and flows into other people’s lives. With the ripple effect of kindness, there is better wellbeing and more compassion for all.
Ultimately, kindness toward others creates a more harmonious world.
Pause, breathe, and be kind.
